Monday - May 15th:
Today you will start your last project before your final exam project in this class. You have decided to run for public office. Which office, that is up to you. President, local school board member, road commissioner, it's totally up to you. But here is the catch. Find a classmate who will be running as your opponent. That's right, both of you are to be running for the same public office. You are to create the items below using any Adobe Software you like; plus you will learn and use Animoto to make a commercial for your campaign.
Below are the items you will create for your run for office. You have 3 days to complete this assignment. Thursday you will begin your final exam project. Use your time wisely. I suggest doing research to get come ideas. THIS MUST BE ORIGINAL WORK!
1. Campaign Logo.
2. Campaign Slogan.
3. Campaign Magazine Cover. This must include an image of you and your opponent. Who is running against you? See the example below. Don't forget your opponent must be a classmate running for the same office. (YOU MAY COPY THE MAGAZINE BACKGROUNDS. FOR EXAMPLE: THE TIME MAGAZINE LAYOUT.)

After 15 minutes is up, we will go around the room and you will tell the class one thing you have learned about him. It must be something different from each student.

You will be answering some questions & writing a short paper after, using your notes, so pay attention. I will give you the questions that are to be answered in your paper at the end. Today will take a break from our regularly scheduled program and work on some CTE specific tasks that must be completed prior to the end of the school year. So today, we will work on a professional application packet. This application packet will include 4 items, following the examples that I'm providing. Remember, all items must be your original work! I am giving you samples so that you understand what I'm looking for, but you are responsible to create your own original and personal professional application packet.
1. Create a new professional resume. A sample is provided below.
- Follow the example.
- Make it original.
- Make sure to read all of the "hints" that I've included.
2. Create a real professional reference page. A sample is provided below.
3. Create a professional cover letter. A sample is provided below.
- Follow the example.
- Make it generic so that you can use it for most jobs that you apply for.

Let's get those creative juices flowing again with our final design contest of the year. The deadline for this is May 9th, so we will begin Dreamweaver in a few days. See the two links below. One is the contest details, the other is the Art Beats events page. You are responsible for the contest details and entry guidelines. You can submit up to 3 posters, but 3 is not a requirement. Use your time wisely, you have until the end of class Wednesday to submit your poster or posters. The rubric for this is the contest guidelines. Remember, it must be origional work. You can use any Adobe Software you like.

Monday - April 10th "Yeah, Flash is back!!"
First Step: The goal here is for you to create your very own stick figure animation. So to start, follow along with the Flash tutorial to the right. You will need to try to mimic the things that he does in the tutorial. If you finish prior to the end of class, practice the techniques learned / discussed in the tutorial to gain mastery in the skills. This covers using the drawing tools in Flash CS6. |

Second Step:
Follow along with the tutorial to the right and create a stick person using flash as shown in the video. You will not create anything until about 1/2 way thru the video. Have Flash up, and follow along doing what he is doing. |

Third Step:
After completing your stick figure from step two, follow along with the tutorial and get your stick figure moving. You will be submitting this project for a grade, and you will be sharing your stick figure animation with the class. Have fun. |

You are to watch the videos while having Adobe Edge Animate open, and do your best to follow along. Take your time. By doing the online lessons and the Adobe provided tutorials, you will have a good idea on how to navigate your way around Edge Animate.

You need to have Edge Animate open as we watch this so you can get the feel for the software. After that you will be going through the lessons that are in Adobe Edge Animate. You will need the file below for the Sprite Sheets lesson. Take this slow, follow along, and read line for line.

Before we dive into Adobe Edge Animate, we will learn a little about how computer generated animation came to be. We will be watching The Pixar Story as a class. When we are done, you are to take the fun quiz below. How well do you know Pixar movies?
Keep in mind, I'll need your finalized Chicago Film Festival Posters by the end of this week. So if you have free time this week, put your final touches on those, and send to me when completed.

The files needed for this are below, along with some fun examples showing my expectations. You will be designing 3 different Van's shoe's, and all the sides of a food truck. Keep your food truck theme school appropriate. All sides obviously will need to keep the theme of your food truck. Keep in mind your deadline, which is end of hour Friday. When done, save, and e-mail me your final designs. You can use any Adobe software you like, you will want to save these files, and open in Adobe. Have a good two days!

When you are done please print in color, and staple all of the pages together and in the order they are listed in the instructions.

First, finish and turn in chapter 8 text book assignment if you have not already. IF YOUR ARE BEHIND, GET CAUGHT UP FIRST, BEFORE MOVING ON! Being creative is easier or harder for some of us. So how do you be more creative?
FIRST, download and watch the video below on your own, before moving on.
The document below gives you 27 tips on how to be more creative in art, business, life, whatever. Open the PDF below, and read it! This is due at the end of our time today, you should have plenty of time to do this. If you finish early, put the final touches on your poster or get caught up on missing work.
In a word document:
1. According to the video, what are the 6 things needed to unlock creativity? The speaker refers to these 6 things as her "innovation engine". Please list.
2. From the article, list and describe 15 of the 27 tips. Rank them in order of those you find the most important to the least important.
3. In your descriptions of the tips, explain why you agree or disagree with that tip.
*Remember, you can put tips on your list that you disagree with as long as you explain why you felt they needed to be included in your list.

This is due at the end of our time today, you should have plenty of time to do this. If you finish early, put the final touches on your poster or get caught up on missing work.

Wednesday - 2/8: Today we take a break from Adobe InDesign!! And start our next contest. The 53rd Chicago International Film Festival is having a poster competition. You will be submitting just one poster. The link with the guidelines are below. You are responsible for reading those, and making sure your poster meets those guidelines. CTE will cover your entry fee. The deadline is March 31, so we have plenty of time. It's a $2,500 cash prize, so let's rock it out! Use any Adobe software you want, but make sure you create original work. Make sure you read the Designer Agreement and and Complete Rules and Details fully, the link is in the below link. I would recommend doing a little research about the Chicago International Film Festival and it's history to get an idea about what they are about. Have fun!!

Tuesday - 1/17: Please research artist Andy Warhol. You will be expected to write a two page paper (MLA format) discussing your findings. I would like you to introduce Andy Warhol to us. Who is he? What is he famous for? Why is he considered an artist? How can we use his style of art in a design class? What are some interesting facts about him. What have you learned while researching that you didn't know before? We will not be spending the entire class time on this, so research quickly and get to writing.
Thursday - 1/12: We will be creating 2 different comic book covers. You will be responsible for creating your own characters and comic book ideas. Watch the video to the right on how to sketch a comic book cover. The video does NOT show you how to create the comic book cover in illustrator. It's purpose it to show you what I expect you to include on your cover. Remember sketching your ideas first gives you a strategy for your design.
You will be graded on the following items for each cover: 1. Title / Design / Character (10 points) 2. All elements in video are included on your cover (5 points) 3. Personal Brand Logo Project
Tuesday - 12/13 - 12/16: We are going to embark on our first major project in Illustrator - Creating your own, personal brand logo. This project will involve research, design, and instruction. The entire project is worth 150 points and will NOT be completed in 1 day. You will be graded on the practice activity, content of your research paper, the sketches and creation of your logo, the written step by step guidelines that you create to teach someone else how to duplicate your logo, and the recreation of your logo from your peer that used your guidelines. You will need to be thorough and specific throughout the entire process in order to be successful on this assignment. I want excellence rather than speed on this project so take your time and show me what you can do! Good luck - I know that we are going to see and learn some amazing things through this project! At the end, we will be putting your personal brand logo on t-shirts. :) Some things that you should keep in mind as we begin:

We are going to be using the thumbnail strategy discussed in the video to the right. 16 thumnail sketeches will be required and you will need to follow the 5 steps discussed in the video when creating your thumbnail sketches. |

Step 4: Creation, Explaination & Recreation

Be creative and remember that the "client" wants the culture of the school district to be highlighted. Your submissions will be reviewed by a panel and their favorite banners will be chosen for publication. Your name will be included in the publication as well.

Wednesday - January 31st:
Today you will create your own version of a spot the difference game. This is different than the hide the image game. In this activity you need to make subtle changes that blend into the picture. For example, you might add an extra motor boat in the marina, you might remove a person, or you might add flags to a tower...Be creative, but remember that whatever changes you make must look like they are a natural part of the picture.
You will need to include at least 25 differences between the two pictures. You can use any image you like, you may use Photoshop or Illustrator and you must include an answer key in addition to your project. When done, print the original image, your image with your difference, and your answer key.
Have fun! Make these hard! Your peer will be trying to find your image differences.

Thursday - November 3nd:
Picture comes to life - Imagine that you are looking a picture on your phone or Facebook when suddenly it comes to life! Your objective is to choose a photo and using your best Photoshop skills, make it appear as if the picture was alive. You should have objects popping/climbing... out of the picture. See the example below and good luck. You will need to complete at least 5 pictures. Print them off when you are finished and submit them all together. Remember to print in color and keep it school appropriate!

Tuesday - November 1st:
True Identity - Be it a reflection in a puddle or a shadow on the wall, the objective is to use Photoshop to show an image's true identity in its reflection. Perhaps you'll show a wolf in sheep's clothing or a kitten dreaming of being a lion. Be clever because the true self can only be seen in the shadows.
You will need to complete shadows for the following items and then print them all in color:
Complete 2 animal true identities.
Complete a true identity for yourself.
Complete a true identity for a political candidate.
Complete a true identity for your hero.

Example - What would a fly look like if it was on fire? (firefly) What would the moon look like if it was made of honey? (honeymoon)
I have included some examples below. Be creative and when you have finished all 8, print them in color. Don't tell us what your images are, let us guess. Have some fun with this and as always remember to keep it clean and school appropriate. Also - you must create your own work. You may not duplicate examples discussed in class.

1. Start research paper. You will be looking for 10 photo editing software programs, not including Photoshop, to research.
2. List and describe each software programs capabilities.
3. Compare the programs capabilities to Photoshop CC.
4. In order from Best to Worst: list the programs and explain why you ranked them the way you did.
5. Finally, compare the cost of each program.

4. Create a Google Doc with a list of your hidden items.

During presentations you should be trying to master the new skill that is being taught. You may NOT work on your own project and you may not ignore the presenter. We want to learn new skills so that we can do more with Photoshop.
