Access 2016 Challenges!
Access Challenge # 1
- Open the practice database.
- Click through all of the tabs, and notice how the options on the Ribbon change.
- Minimize the Ribbon, then Maximize it again.
- Resize the Navigation pane to make it take up less room.
- Re-sort the objects in the Navigation pane.

- Open the practice database.
- Open an object.
- Close the object.
- Rename the object.
- Close the database without saving your changes.

- Open the practice database.
- Open the Customers table.
- Add a new record to the table. Be sure to enter data for every field.
- Find the record with the name Sula Smart, and replace it with a name of your choice.
- Hide a field, then unhide it.
- Change the alternate row color.

- Open the practice database.
- Open the Orders Form.
- Create a new record with the following data:

Paid: Yes - Open the form named Customers Form.
- Find the record for customer Dwight Parker and make the following changes:

- Open the practice database.
- Open the query called Cakes and Pies Sold.
- Apply a filter to the Product Types field that shows only Cakes.
- In the Sum of Quantity field, apply a number filter that only shows numbers greater than or equal to five.
- Apply an ascending sort to the Sum of Quantity field.

- Open the practice database.
- Create a new query.
- Select the Customers table to include in your query.
- Add the following fields from the Customers table to your query:
First Name
Last Name
City
Zip Code - Set the following criteria:
In the City field, type "Durham" to return only records with Durham in the City field.
In the Zip Code field, type "27514" in the or: row to return records that are either in Durham or zip code 27514. - Run the query. If you entered the query correctly, your results will include 15 records of customers who live in Durham OR in zip code 27514.
- Save the query with the name Customers who live in Durham.

Access Challenge # 7
- Open the practice database.
- Create a new query.
- Select the Customers and Orders tables to include in your query.
- Change the join direction to right to left.
- Add the First Name, Last Name, and Zip Code fields from the Customers table to your query.
- Add the Paid field from the Orders Table to your query.
- Set the following criteria:
In the Zip Code field, type 27609 to return only records with a zip code of 27609.
In the Paid field, type Yes to return only customers who have paid. - Run the query. If you entered the query correctly, your results will include 20 records of customers who live in the zip code 27609 and have paid for an order. If not, click the View drop-down arrow on the Ribbon to return to Design view and check your work.
- Save the query with the name Paying Customers in 27609.

Access Challenge # 8
- Open the practice database.
- Open the Customers Who've Ordered from Nearby Towns query, and switch to Design view.
- Add a Totals row to the query.
- Set the Totals row in the Orders Table ID field to Count. This will let us count how many orders each customer has placed.
- In the Customers table in the Object Relationship pane, double-click the word City to add another City field to the design grid below.
- Click and drag the City field you just added so it is to the left of the First Name field. It should now be the leftmost field in the design grid.
- Apply the following multilevel sort:
In the leftmost City field, apply an ascending sort.
In the Last Name field, apply an ascending sort. - Hide the leftmost City field.
- Run the query. If you did it correctly, there should be 14 records in the query results. The first record should look like this:

Access Challenge # 9
- Open the practice database.
- Open the Customers Who Live Nearby query, and use it to create a report.
- Resize the fields so all of the information is on the left side of the page break. Make sure the columns still have enough width to display all of the text.
- Move the page number so it is to the left of the page break.
- Export the report as a PDF.

Access Challenge # 10
- Open the practice database.
- Open the Cookies Sold report.
- Add the date and time to the header.
- Add page numbers to the footer.
- Choose a new theme and theme fonts.
- Add a logo. You can use an image from your computer or download the Songbird Bakery logo.
- E-mail me your final file, titled Challenge #10.

Access Challenge # 11
- Open the practice database.
- Open the Products Table and change the data type for the description field to Long Text.
- Open the Customers Table and add a new field that uses the Short Text data type. Name the new field Credit Card.
- Add the following Field Validation Rule to the Credit Card field: "VS" Or "MC" Or "AMX".
- Set a field validation message for the same field. It should say Enter a valid Credit Card Type: Must be VS, MC, or AMX.
- Test your field validation rule by typing Visa into a cell in the Credit Card field. If you've added the rule correctly, a dialog box should appear with the message you added above.

Access Challenge # 12
- Open the practice database.
- Create a form from the Customers table.
- Delete the subform.
- Create a combo box. Add the following choices to the combo box:
Raleigh
Durham
Hillsborough
Cary
Chapel Hill
Garner
Charlotte
Store the value in the City field, and label the combo box NC City List. Click Finish when you are done with the Combo Box Wizard. - Switch to Form view, and click the drop-down arrow in the combo box you created. You should see a list of cities.

- Open the practice database.
- Open the Order Items form.
- Change to Layout view.
- Add a command button that creates a new record.
- Format the newly added command button with the colors and style of your choosing.
- Change the theme colors and theme fonts.
